10th Annual Live Nativity

The 10th Annual Live Nativity at Starkdale Presbyterian Church in Wintersville is scheduled for December 12th, 2021, with six (6) presentations repeated every half-hour starting at 5:00 pm, with the final one beginning at 7:30 pm. The Live Nativity is an indoor/outdoor production about the birth of Jesus, followed by an opportunity to pet the animals, meet the cast, and enjoy refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. The Pastor of Starkdale, Rev. Carl Moore, will also be present to welcome and visit with guests in the Fellowship Hall. This is one of the church’s ways of sharing the gift of Jesus Christ to the community during the Christmas season.

The journey begins at the Bethlehem Inn (indoors) where guests are greeted by the Inn Keepers. They explain that they have no room at the Inn due to Caesar Augustus’ order that each person must register in his hometown for the census. They will explain that they just turned away a young couple, who is expecting a child. Along with the Inn Keepers, Centurion Guards and Tax Collectors will be on hand to make sure every person registers and pays taxes, per order of Caesar Augustus.

The guests are summoned by a Shepherd and led through the streets of Bethlehem (the church hallway) and into a field (Church Sanctuary) where another Shepherd begins the narration of the birth of Christ. An angel appears to the crowd and sings, “Mary Did You Know?” and is then joined by a myriad of angels (Starkdale Choir) with heavenly voices.

The guests are then led outside to the Nativity Scene of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Angels, shepherds, and animals will also be at the manger. The angels will continue the narration and lead the crowd in singing Christmas Carols. The Three Kings also make an appearance as they bear gifts to all the guests in attendance. After the Nativity Scene has concluded, the guests are led to the fellowship hall (indoors) and treated to homemade cookies and hot drinks prepared by the Starkdale Congregation.

A shuttle van service and additional parking will be available in the parking lot of the former Riesbeck’s Food Market to accommodate all guests. For more information about the presentations or other Starkdale activities, please feel free to contact the church office at (740) 264-5309 or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/StarkdalePresbyterianChurch.

An Evening with Michael Franzese

Wednesday, November 10, 2021
7:00 P.M.

Steubenville High School Auditorium

Michael Franzese grew up as the son of the notorious Underboss of New York’s violent and feared Colombo crime family. At his most affluent, Michael was generating an estimated $5 to $8 million per week from legal and illegal businesses and in 1986, was named one of the biggest money earners the mob had seen since Al Capone, by Vanity Fair. At the age of 35, Fortune Magazine listed him as number 18 on its list of the “Fifty Most Wealthy and Powerful Mafia Bosses,” just 5 behind John Gotti.

All that was to change when Michael met a beautiful dancer from California named Camille Garcia whose beauty and faith would turn his world upside down causing Michael to do the unthinkable – walk away from the mob. Nobody of his rank had ever just walked away – and lived. Until now.

This former “Prince of the Mafia” is now a man on a mission determined to use the compelling experiences of his former life for the benefit of others seeking redemption and forgiveness and continues to bring record attendance to events all over the country.

Isaiah 43:1-3a; 10-13, Luke 1:26-45

Isaiah 43:1-3a; 10-13

But now, this is what the Lord says — he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”

Luke 1:26-45

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
