Care Corps Up and Running!

For the past  several years, Outreach has been discussing a new ministry, Care Corps. The idea of  Care Corps was to minister to our own church family’s needs- such as our shut-ins and our members who may have had surgery etc.

Enter Peggy Rekai.  Peggy has such a heart for our shut-ins and began (on her own) to visit several.  Peggy then decided that it was time for Care Corps to become a reality.

Enter Dianna Vandeborne.  With Dianna’s organizational skills (and big heart) and Peggy’s heart for our shut-ins, Care Corps is up and running.  (I like to refer to these two as the Dynamic Duo.)

Visits are continuing to several of our shut-ins, plus meals are being delivered to one family three times a week.  Grocery shopping is being organized for another family.  Cards and phone calls are being made on a regular basis to our friends who have found themselves housebound for one reason or the other.  We hope to be able to offer rides to doctor’s appointments, etc. in the near future.

Starkdale Presbyterian Women – Fall 2015

All women in the congregation are invited to come and enjoy a time of fellowship and Bible study with our Starkdale Presbyterian Women (SPW).  All gatherings start with lunch, followed by Bible study and a short meeting.  If you are new to the church, this is a wonderful way to get to know your church family.  We encourage all of you to come and share in this special time of Christian fellowship.

Gatherings are held the fourth Tuesday of September, October, March, April and May.  Due to Thanksgiving and Christmas, gatherings for November will be held the third Tuesday and the Christmas gift exchange and luncheon will be the second Tuesday.  Starting in September this year, a social time from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. was added with lunch being served at 11:30 a.m. instead of 12:00 noon.  Please note the change of time for lunch.

If you aren’t familiar with SPW, the main purpose of our organization is to create a climate for spiritual development and growth of all women in the congregation and to encourage and promote Christian fellowship.

We also work toward raising funds for local charities, helping with some of the cost of our youth who attend Elkhorn Valley Church Camp every summer, recognizing our graduates in June every year, sponsoring an over 80’s luncheon for those “youngsters” who are 80 or over, and coordinating dining room activities, kitchen activities and publicity for the annual Starkdale Church Chicken Grill.

SPW Officers are:  Co-moderators, Janet Stukins and Janice Whitaker; Secretary, Mary Beth Allan; Treasurer, Joyce Palmer; Assistant Treasurer, Ella Jane Burns and Mission Involvement, Helen Unsold.

Hope to see you in September.

Welcome Rev. & Mrs. Paul Danielson

We are delighted to welcome to our pulpit the Rev. Paul Danielson who will bring God’s message to us during the month of September.  Rev. Danielson and his wife, Heather, “have been together in marriage and ministry.” They have six grown children whom they love dearly. The Danielsons have worked with congregations from Maine to Florida, from Long Island to Chicago and from Pittsburgh to the Upper Ohio Valley. They ministered for a number of years as missionaries on the remote island of Palawan in the Philippines. Both of their parents were in the Lord’s work before them.  Paul and Heather have lived a life of faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. The Word of God is precious to them; the fellowship of saints is sweet and the opportunity to share the gospel with those who are seeking is choice. Psalm ll9:63 has been a guiding Scripture throughout their years of service: “I am a companion of all those who fear you, and of those who keep your precepts.”

From the Session – September 2015

The Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) has been working diligently on our Church Information Form (CIF) which will be ready for submission following our member-wide envisioning meetings which must take place in order to move forward.
Look for more information on the envisioning planning in this month’s Sunday bulletins. We are also in contact with our presbytery liaison, Rev. Dana Opp, who attends our meetings when possible.

The Interim Search Committee (ISC) has also been meeting regularly and is waiting to receive candidates from Presbytery to begin the interview process.

The Worship Committee will continue to provide Session and Presbytery approved Stated Supply until an interim or permanent pastor is secured.

Please continue to be in prayer with us.

For questions, please consult the Book of Order of the EPC, or you may contact the Ruling Elder representatives on the search committees.
